The Makeup Artist Who Changed How I Do My Makeup
Hi readers!
I honestly don’t remember what I used to do before I discovered Katie Jane Hughes.
I came across one of her videos on TikTok completely by chance, and somehow ended up watching one after another. Since then, I’ve picked up so many little makeup techniques from her that I use all the time now. It’s funny how you can do your makeup the same way for years, and then one person shows you a slightly different way of doing something and suddenly you wonder how you ever did it differently.
What I especially love about Katie’s makeup is how natural it looks. I’ve always been a little insecure about my skin, especially during periods when I’ve struggled with acne, so having good coverage has always been important to me. At the same time, I’ve never really wanted my makeup to look heavy or like I’m wearing a lot of it.
That’s probably what I love most about her techniques. She has so many clever little tricks for getting coverage while still keeping the skin looking like skin. When I use some of the techniques I’ve learned from her, my base looks so much more natural. Sometimes it barely even looks like I’m wearing makeup, even when I’ve actually used quite a bit of it.
One of the techniques I use the most is her “Prime the Brush” method. It’s such a simple idea, but it has made a surprisingly big difference in the way I apply my base. Instead of just putting a lot of product directly onto the skin and trying to blend it all out afterwards, the technique gives you much more control over how much product you’re actually applying.
And I think that’s what I’ve learned to appreciate most about her makeup advice: it’s not always about buying a new product. A lot of the time, it’s about changing the way you use the products you already have.
I’ve also found that her techniques have made me feel much more comfortable experimenting with my makeup. I don’t feel like I have to choose between having the coverage I want and having my skin look natural. I can still cover the areas I’m not as confident about, while letting the rest of my skin look like skin.
I’m sure there are still plenty of Katie’s techniques I haven’t discovered yet, but I’m honestly very happy that TikTok happened to put one of her videos on my For You page that day, haha.
So, if you’re into makeup and haven’t come across Katie Jane Hughes yet, I would definitely recommend checking out her TikTok. She has so many little techniques and tips, and I’ve personally found them much more useful than a lot of the generic makeup advice you see online.
Until next time, ♡
