Meet Daphne & Florence
Hi readers!
I have recently become an orchid owner, which is something I honestly didn’t expect to be this excited about, lol.
A few days ago, I brought home two orchids, and of course, they immediately needed names. So, meet Daphne and Florence. Aren’t they so pretty? I love their colors. The small one is Daphne, and the bigger one is Florence.

I’ve never really considered myself a plant person before, but there is something about having an actual living thing in your home that you get to look after. Since bringing them home, I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time reading about orchids and watching videos about how to take care of them.
How much light do they need? How often should I water them? What kind of pot do they like? Should I use orchid bark? What does it mean when the roots look like this?
I think it’s so much fun learning about them.
There’s something surprisingly satisfying about having something that needs a little bit of your attention. It gives you a small reason to slow down and pay attention to your surroundings. Instead of just walking past them, I find myself checking on them, looking at the leaves and wondering if they seem happy.
And I actually think there’s something really lovely about that.
Life can get quite busy, and it’s so easy to spend the day moving from one thing to the next without really stopping. Having something small to take care of gives me a little routine. It’s nothing complicated, but I like the feeling of knowing that there are two little orchids sitting by my window that depend on me to keep them happy.
I also think there’s something quite comforting about watching a plant grow. You don’t get instant results. You water it, give it enough light, take care of it, and then you wait. And eventually, you might get a new leaf or a new flower.
Maybe that’s part of why I’ve become so interested in them.
And honestly, I think everyone should have something to take care of. It doesn’t have to be an orchid. It could be a plant, a pet, a garden, or even just a little daily ritual that gives you something to look forward to. I’ve only had Daphne and Florence for a few days, so I’m looking forward to learning more about orchids.
I’ll keep you updated on how they’re doing. Hopefully I can keep them alive.
PS: I also bought myself a chrysanthemum today! I was in the shop buying orchid bark, and then I saw this one and immediately had to get her, haha! She was just lovely, and I instantly got autumn vibes from her. Here’s a picture of her in my living room.
Do you have any plants? And if you do, what are your favorites?
Until next time, ♡
