10 Things I Love About Autumn (And Why I’m Already Counting Down)

Hi readers!

It’s still technically summer, but I’ll admit it: I’ve already got autumn on the brain. The older I get, the more I love this season, and every year around this time I start getting a little too excited a little too early. So, in the spirit of leaning into whatever I’m curious about (the whole point of this blog, really), here are 10 things I’m looking forward to.

1. The colors. There’s nothing quite like the shift from summer green to every shade of orange, red, and gold. The woods by my house are especially beautiful for it, I go there for walks and just take it all in. And there’s something about it that makes going into the city for coffee with friends feel extra cozy too, like the whole season is setting the mood for you.

2. The clothes (and the boots).
I love a good knitted sweater. I actually just bought one with all the colours of the season in it, and I can’t wait for it to be cold enough to wear it. There’s something about autumn weather that’s just perfect for getting dressed — cold enough for cosy layers, but not so cold that you can’t still be a little stylish about it. And, of course, rain boots that still look cute. There’s something so satisfying about being practical and put-together at the same time. Splashing through puddles without ruining your outfit? Yes please. There’s also a very small, stubborn part of me that still wants to jump in every single one.

3. The sound of rain.
There’s something ridiculously cosy about hearing rain (and thunder) against the windows when you’re inside, warm and dry. Especially when you have absolutely nowhere you need to be. Bonus points if there’s a candle lit and a cup of tea or chocolate involved.

4. Being cozy indoors without the guilt. In summer I always feel like I should be outside doing something. In autumn, curling up on my soft couch with a blanket just feels right.

5. Pumpkins. All of them. I don’t know what it is about pumpkins, but the second they start appearing everywhere, I’m ready for autumn. On porches, carved, painted, or stacked in piles outside every shop and farm. I love them all. Honestly, the more pumpkins, the better.

6. Apple picking (and turning it into cake). Going to a farm, filling several bags with more apples than I could possibly need, and actually following through on the plan for once. A warm, homemade apple cinnamon cake.

7. The smell of autumn. I don’t know how to explain it, but autumn just smells different. Rain, wet leaves, wood smoke, cinnamon. Somehow you can just tell when the season has changed. It’s one of those things I don’t really think about until it’s there, and then suddenly I’m like, yep. It’s autumn.

8. Interior inspiration. Something about autumn makes me want to redecorate everything. Suddenly I’m looking at my apartment thinking, what if this corner had a lamp? Or maybe I need twelve more cushions? I love finding little things that make my home feel warmer and more like me. Autumn just gives me the perfect excuse to obsess over it a little more than usual.

9. Reading by the fireplace or a cozy movie night. A good book or a good film, a blanket, and no feeling like you’re supposed to be doing anything else. This might be my favorite way to spend an evening. My absolute favorite books this time of year have to be the Harry Potter series, and The Mortal Instruments series.

10. The creative spark. This is the one that surprises me every year. Something about autumn just makes me want to make things. Write, plan, start new projects. Like my new book project that I mentioned earlier, or making new random designs (fun fact: I actually have a degree in graphic design).

So yes, it’s still August. But don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here mentally decorating for October.

Until next time, ♡
