For When You Don’t Feel Like Doing Anything

Hi readers,

I often have days where I feel restless. Not tired exactly, more like I want to do something, but I don’t know what, and nothing quite feels right. Sometimes it’s a long week catching up with me, sometimes I’m just in a mood, and sometimes there’s no real reason at all.

I’ve noticed I don’t need a complicated routine on those days. A few small things can make the day feel a little nicer, so I thought I’d share some of the things that usually help me. Maybe you’ll find one or two helpful too.

Put your phone away

This is probably one of the harder ones.

When I’m restless, it’s very easy to end up scrolling through social media without really enjoying it. So sometimes I’ll put my phone away for a little while instead.

No music, no podcast, no scrolling. Just ten minutes of sitting quietly, drinking a glass of cold water, looking out the window, and focusing on my breathing.

I don’t always manage it for 10 minutes straight, but I usually feel a little more present afterwards, no matter the amount of time.

Take a shower

It sounds simple, but I almost always feel a little better afterwards.

A shower and clean pyjamas often feels like a tiny reset and helps clear the mind of clutter.

Make something I actually want to eat

On days like this, I don’t want to think too much about food.

I’ll usually make something easy that I actually feel like eating. Pasta, toast, snacks, whatever works.

Open a window

Fresh air can make such a difference.

Even just opening the window for a few minutes can make the room feel a little lighter.

Tidy one tiny thing

Not the whole apartment. Just one thing.

I’ll clear the bedside table, put away the clothes on the chair, or throw away the random receipts in my bag.

Sometimes that’s enough.

Watch something familiar

I don’t always want to start something new.

Sometimes I just want to watch a comfort show I’ve already seen a hundred times. No thinking required.

Go outside for a little while

It doesn’t have to be a proper walk.

I might walk to the shop, stand outside for a few minutes, or just get some fresh air. Nothing more complicated than that.

I must say that I do prefer a walk in the forest, but it’s not always time for that.

Or, do absolutely nothing

I’m still trying to get better at this one.

I don’t have to clean my entire home, exercise, answer every message, and get my life together before going to bed. Sometimes a shower, something nice to eat, clean pyjamas, and an early night are enough.

And maybe tomorrow will feel a little easier.

Until next time, ♡
